ESC: English Studies in Canada
Published since 1975, ESC is Canada’s leading generalist journal in the discipline of English and is the quarterly publication of ACCUTE. ESC has a broad publishing mandate, and accepts scholarly articles on literature, language, culture, and theory as considered in both established and emerging areas of the discipline. Indeed, ESC’s stated mission is “to reflect the discipline back to itself,” which it does to rave reviews.
In addition to the publication of approximately twenty-five scholarly articles per year, issues of ESC include a readers’ forum on current and pressing issues in the discipline, interviews, review articles, and book reviews. ESC publishes one special issue in each annual volume; recent topics have included “The Event of the Archive,” “Interiors,” “Guilt,” “Sound and Event in Poetry,” and most recently “Skin.”
ESC’s contributors, readers, and Editorial Advisory Board are international in scope. ESC’s readership includes almost a thousand subscribers and institutions. The journal is also available through four online aggregators: Project Muse, EBSCO, Gale, and Proquest. Our most recent figures indicate that full-text articles from ESC were downloaded almost twenty-thousand times by readers in thirty different countries.
